Meet Our Mascot: The Quokka

About the Quokka
Mainly found in Western Australia, quokkas are often referred to as “the happiest animals on earth,” and known for their friendly nature and infectious smiles. They are herbivorous marsupials (they eat yard waste—basically making them mini composters) that are resilient despite vulnerability due to predation, habitat loss, and wildfires (an embodiment of integrity, one of our core values). With their courageousness, resourcefulness, and creativity, quokkas share the same set of values that are fundamental to who GreenWaste is.
Our Quokka Family
The quokka’s characteristics resonate with who we are as a company, so we set off to create a family of quokkas as our mascot. Our family consists of 8 unique quokkas, each of which is named after and embodies a GreenWaste core value or promise.
Catch Me If You Can!
Spot our mascot on social media, at outreach events for #quokkaselfie opportunities, and in outreach collateral and giveaways. Whether it be online, at a school assembly, or at a community fair, the quokka is there as a friendly reminder for proper disposal and recycling. Stay tuned for our activity book featuring the quokka!
Events, Volunteerism, and Sponsorship

Community Events
GreenWaste thoroughly enjoys participating in local community events, from Town Picnics and annual races, to targeted educational workshops. Being involved with city and town festivities affords us opportunities to learn more about the communities we serve while providing education on waste reduction and recycling. Keep an eye out for our team at your next community event!
Creek Clean Up and Ocean Litter Awareness
Over the past few years, GreenWaste has stepped up its commitment to preventing ocean plastic pollution by participating in creek and community litter clean ups and by donating plastic to a Monterey Bay Aquarium plastic whale art installation. Waste haulers like GreenWaste hold a vital role in preventing ocean plastic pollution by ensuring loads are properly covered, and by using our position to educate the communities we serve.
Other Engagement
GreenWaste enjoys sponsoring and volunteering for a wide range of community events and organizations. Have an opportunity you think GreenWaste is the perfect fit for? Contact us at news@greenwaste.com.

School and Youth Organization Presentations
GreenWaste understands that today’s youth represent our future. Working with local schools and youth organizations is something we not only take pride in, but is a highly effective way of ensuring that each generation values recycling more than the last.
Youth presentations and availability vary based on service area. If you would like GreenWaste to visit your classroom or youth organization, please contact your local GreenWaste office.
